The travel warning due to the corona pandemic is being reactivated for more and more regions in the EU. Now it hits a party mile on the Black Sea that is very popular with German holidaymakers.

Due to a significant increase in corona infections in Bulgaria and Romania, the federal government is now warning against tourist trips to several regions of the two EU countries. This also includes the Bulgarian tourist stronghold of Varna with the popular holiday destination of German party tourists, Golden Sands, which is often compared to the Ballermann on Mallorca. Varna also has one of the two most important airports on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.

At the same time, also risk areas

In addition, according to the travel advice from the Foreign Office on the Internet, Blagoevgrad and Dobritsch are affected in Bulgaria, and the Argeș, Bihor, Buzău, Neamt, Ialomita, Mehedinti and Timiş districts in Romania. The most important Romanian holiday regions in Transylvania and on the Black Sea are exempt from the warning.

The total of ten regions in Bulgaria and Romania were simultaneously identified as risk areas by the Robert Koch Institute. Vacationers returning from such areas have had to be tested for the corona virus since Saturday.

Travel warning for a total of five EU countries

Bulgaria and Romania are already the fourth and fifth countries in the European Union to be warned again in whole or in part against vacation travel. There are also travel warnings for Luxembourg, the Belgian province of Antwerp and three regions in Spain: Aragon, Navarra and Catalonia with the tourist metropolis of Barcelona and the beaches of the Costa Brava.

The only regions outside Europe for which the travel warning has so far been lifted are four holiday areas in the Asian part of Turkey, the third most popular travel destination for Germans. You can find out where else travel warnings apply in our article "Corona: Travel warnings apply here".

A travel warning is not a prohibition, but is intended to have a significant deterrent effect. However, it also has a positive side for consumers: it allows travelers to cancel bookings free of charge.

Some warnings reactivated

After the outbreak of the corona pandemic, the Federal Foreign Office issued a worldwide travel warning for tourist trips for the first time on March 17. It was initially lifted for more than 30 European countries in mid-June, but has since been reactivated for the five countries mentioned.

This usually happens when the number of new corona infections exceeds 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days. But there can also be other reasons such as entry bans or a lack of hygiene measures. You can read what exactly defines risk areas and travel warnings in our article "Corona: Travel advice or risk area?".

There is currently a travel warning for more than 160 countries, but only about 130 of them are classified as risk areas. For example, a travel warning applies to Thailand because there is still an entry ban for tourists, but it is no longer a risk area due to the low number of infections. (ag / dpa)
