Baby's 9th month has dawned! Your offspring will now crawl with enthusiasm or crawl through the room and curiously explore their surroundings with their hands. Read here how you can stimulate your baby's senses in the ninth month with games and excursions and thus promote it in a playful way.

The 9th month

In the ninth month, your baby can crawl or crawl and thus has new opportunities to discover his environment. Objects no longer end up in the mouth first, but are grasped extensively with the hands. In the ninth month, your baby is also happy about trips that expand his world.

9th month - physical development

Your baby is growing more slowly in the ninth month than before. On average, your offspring will gain a total of one kilo and grow about three to four centimeters over the next three months. Above all, the facial features change in the ninth month: Your baby's face has become much slimmer and looks very different from a few months ago.

Motorical development

Your baby is very active in the ninth month. It probably pulls itself forward with its hands and pushes itself off with its feet: it crawls!

The crawling phase is usually preceded by a phase in which the baby rocks back and forth while kneeling. In the ninth month your baby wants to move forward, but often the coordination of the arms and legs is not yet optimal.

However, the motor development of babies in the ninth month is very different. Perhaps your child will skip the seal and crawl right away. Or your offspring will invent other locomotion techniques and slide forward on their buttocks.

In the ninth month, your baby can sit freely and confidently handle objects to take a closer look.

Depending on how well developed your baby's muscles are at nine months, he or she can pull himself up on low furniture.

The development of the senses

"Learn with all your senses!" That is the creed in the ninth month of your baby. While the remote senses such as hearing and sight are already well developed, your baby is now training his body-related senses in particular with his daily activities.

The body awareness and motor skills your child possesses are closely related. If your child pulls himself up on furniture at the age of nine months or crawls, he also strengthens his sense of balance.

In the ninth month, babies train their sense of touch by exploring objects. Even a simple cube contains a lot of information that your offspring can explore by touch.

Fine motor skills are better developed in babies 9 months old. It can even put small bites in your mouth. This will further develop his sense of touch and taste.

9th month - mental development

Your baby is a little researcher at nine months. Objects no longer automatically land in the mouth, but are curiously explored with the hands. In the ninth month, your baby will hold the objects with both hands, look at them carefully and turn them in all directions.

Objects are also hit or thrown around on the table with preference. This provides babies in the ninth month with important information about the composition and weight of various objects.

Thanks to increased memory and a sense of context, your baby will understand at nine months that something that is no longer visible still exists - for example a ball rolling under a chest of drawers.

Emotional development

Realizing that things that are out of sight don't stay away forever also affects emotional development in 9 month babies. Because at the same time his awareness develops that caregivers who leave the room still exist - and come back.

Even in the ninth month, your baby needs a lot of closeness and attention from you in order to develop. Consolation with small bumps and encouragement and praise help your offspring to remain emotionally stable and to acquire new skills.

Social development and communication

The ninth month of your baby also opens up new worlds of language. Your offspring is now able to form the first strings of syllables such as "dada" or "nana". He now takes great pleasure in imitating your facial expressions and communicating with you in this way.

Your baby is also developing socially by the ninth month, as he realizes that he has a permanent place in your family. Small gestures such as the high chair at the table or sitting on the lap in good company contribute to this.

9th month - This is how you support your child in a playful way

Your offspring loves voyages of discovery! Small trips in the ninth month will help your baby learn with all of their senses.

Time for a bike tour: As soon as your child can sit freely, a bike trip is a special experience. It speaks to your baby's visual perception. But make sure you have a certified child seat and a hard hat.

Magic trick: magic away objects - this game can be varied practically endlessly and never goes out of style. Your baby will be happy if you briefly hide objects and let them reappear. With these games you promote the attention and awareness of your baby in the ninth month. Colorful towels as a throw offer an alternative to the conventional variant.

Children love cardboard boxes: In the ninth month, a cardboard box gives your baby important information about spatial relationships and promotes gross motor skills. Equipped with a cozy blanket and a few colorful toys, your offspring can explore their surroundings. Cut small windows in the cardboard to make a playhouse out of them.

Visit to the pediatrician in the 9th month

Your baby will not have a regular check-up in the ninth month. However, you can use the time (three months after the U5) to have the pediatrician check the growth and development status again. In a conversation with the doctor, you also have the opportunity to address unanswered questions.

Babies develop very differently in the first nine months. If your offspring are slower to develop, don't worry. Development tables only give rough guidelines.

If your baby is nine months old and has noticeable symptoms, such as excessive body extension, general muscle weakness, or unusual head positions, your pediatrician will decide if there is a developmental disorder. Then, among other things, physiotherapy or occupational therapy can be useful.

Tips for the 9th month

The following tips will help you and your baby in everyday life at nine months:

Encounter at eye level: If you want to play or communicate with your child, be at eye level. This means that you are more attentive to the child and convey appreciation to them.

Include the grandparents: Grandma and Grandpa are better accepted if they are involved from the start. This also gives you more time and variety for yourself and your partnership.

No fear of germs: Infections lurk everywhere in babies nine months old. Even so, you shouldn't keep your offspring away from other children out of concern. The child's immune system is trained with every infection and is prepared for future challenges that await in kindergarten, for example.
