The inland beaches are in demand in the Corona summer. Not every bather adheres to the rules of distance. Many seaside resorts therefore employ additional security guards.

Trust is good, control is better. According to this motto, communities are deploying additional security forces not only in Lower Saxony, but also on the Schleswig-Holstein Baltic Sea coast. They should monitor compliance with safety distances on the beaches and also otherwise ensure order - and not just since minimum distances have been in place on the beaches to prevent the corona pandemic from spreading again.

Security service pays attention to corona rules

"We have hired a private security service and have had very good experiences with it," says Travemünde's spa director Uwe Kirchhoff. For a long time, the security staff on weekends and public holidays have not only taken care of distance rules, but also of dogs on the beach, violations of the barbecue ban and the unauthorized use of bicycles on the promenade.

In the Baltic seaside resort of Scharbeutz, the beach chair rental companies are generally responsible for the order on their respective beach section, says Doris Wilmer-Huperz, spokeswoman for the Lübecker Bucht tourism agency (Talb). "In addition, there are two sandpipers employed by the community who check the beach cards and also ensure that the distance rules are adhered to," she says.

Also on the beach: keep your distance!

In the Baltic Sea resort of Sierksdorf, according to Talb, four to five community employees ensure that the distance rules are observed. "Should the situation worsen massively, the community would fall back on private security services," says Wilmer-Huperz. "But so far the Sierksdorf beach has not really been overcrowded because of the relatively manageable local parking facilities."

Beach chairs: five meters apart

In the North Sea resort of Büsum (Schleswig-Holstein), more than double the distance is mandatory. The security service there has even been strengthened due to the corona pandemic. "At the weekend we have four security guards all day long who ensure compliance with the corona rules," says Olaf Raffel from the Büsum Tourist Service.

This includes, among other things, the five-meter distance between the beach chairs. "They must not be postponed." Only turning into the sun or out of the wind is allowed.

Focus on larger groups

In Norden, Cuxhaven, Butjadingen and Neuharlingersiel on the North Sea coast of Lower Saxony, security guards are currently paying attention to compliance with the corona rules. On the north beach in the Aurich district, security guard Anton Siemers is on a patrol. "Over there I can see straight away that it's a family. Everything is fine there, I'm not talking to them," he says. The situation is not so clear with other visitors - Siemers wants to keep an eye on their number. (lv / dpa)
