A vaccine against the new coronavirus will probably not come until the next turn of the year. Until then, classic disease protection measures must contain the spread as far as possible. However, there are bottlenecks for medical protective equipment. The stock market is weak.

(ft / dpa) - Further coronavirus cases in Germany were confirmed on Saturday. Infections with the Sars-CoV-2 pathogen are now found in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Hesse, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Hamburg, Bremen, Schleswig-Holstein and Rhineland-Palatinate. No infections have been reported in the other federal states.

Vaccine only at the turn of the year

Federal Interior Minister Horst Seehofer (CSU) does not expect the fight against the new corona virus to end quickly. He does not expect a corresponding vaccine until the turn of the year.

Until then, one must fight the virus "with the classic means of epidemic protection," said Seehofer to Bild am Sonntag. Shutting off regions or cities is "the last resort" for Seehofer.

Supply of drugs and protective equipment "big issue"

Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn described the fact that protective equipment for doctors, for example, is often no longer available as a "big issue". Countries, hospitals and private individuals all over the world bought stocks, said the CDU politician of "Welt am Sonntag".

Manufacturers in Germany are often themselves dependent on preliminary products from China."We shouldn't be so dependent on other regions of the world for drugs or protective equipment."

The chairman of the Lower Saxony General Practitioner Association, Mathias Berndt, warned on Friday that it was currently difficult to reorder equipment such as protective gowns or face masks. Many are made in China. He spoke out in favor of selected specialized practices. The available protective materials against the coronavirus should be bundled there.

Sufficient funds for the economy

Federal Finance Minister Olaf Scholz (SPD) sees sufficient funds available to counteract the negative consequences of the spread of the virus for the economy. There are also funds for an economic stimulus program.

Medical emergency aid can also be provided from the current budget, Scholz told “Welt am Sonntag”. Economy Minister Peter Altmaier (CDU) also announced that the government would take countermeasures if the corona virus had an even more massive impact on the economy.

The German leading index Dax temporarily slipped more than five percent on Friday due to concerns about a coronavirus pandemic. The trading day ended the blackest week since the stock market crash in August 2011 - back then in the middle of the euro debt crisis.

Some German supermarkets report hamster purchases (houseofgoldhealthproducts.de reported). Customers increasingly stocked up on non-perishable foods such as canned food or pasta, toilet paper and disinfectants.
