Gynecology (gynecology) deals with functioning, disorders and diseases of the female reproductive organs, the cycle and partly also the urinary tract. All topics relating to pregnancy and childbirth also fall into this medical field. In hospitals, however, these are looked after in the obstetrics department. Gynecological cancers (e.g. breast cancer, cervical cancer) are treated either in oncology or in gynecology.

The following diseases, among others, are diagnosed and treated in the general gynecological department:

  • Endometriosis
  • Fibroids
  • Uterine polyp
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Bladder disease
  • Pelvic floor subsidence
  • Ectopic pregnancy
  • Ovarian cysts
  • Adhesions in the genital area
  • Bleeding disorders
  • Menopausal symptoms

Gynecological departments also sterilize women.
