Lots of people go in and out of a hospital: clinic staff, cleaners, messengers, patients, and visitors. Nobody can control whether thieves mingle with the crowd.

You should therefore leave valuables at home if possible. Jewelry and large amounts of money are particularly problematic. If you have valuables with you, give them to your relatives to take home. If that is not possible, deposit the valuables in the administration.

Some clinics have equipped their patient rooms with lockable cabinets or mini-safes. Please note, however, that many locks are easy to pick and are not an obstacle for experienced thieves.

It is best to have valuables such as cell phones (for making calls outside the clinic building) or cash with you when you leave your room.
