So far, there have been strict restrictions in Bavaria in order to get the corona virus under control. Now Prime Minister Söder wants to loosen up in various places.

After weeks of bans and restrictions, the Bavarian cabinet has decided to loosen the tough anti-corona measures far-reaching. "Now is the right time to open it carefully. The successes are clear," said Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) after the cabinet meeting in Munich on Tuesday. According to Söder, only around 6,400 people are currently infected with the corona virus in Bavaria. Compared to last week alone, the number of sick people has halved. Now it is crucial to get out of the crisis, but slowly and surely the top priority remains.

Contact restrictions

The previous exit restrictions will be lifted - but certain contact restrictions and a ban on gathering people in public spaces will remain in place. From Wednesday it is allowed to meet or visit a person outside of one's own household and also close family members.

Bavaria is also loosening the strict corona-related ban on visits to hospitals and care facilities. From the weekend, visits from a permanent contact person are again permitted - subject to strict hygiene and protective measures.

Commerce and gastronomy

Starting next Monday, all shops will be allowed to reopen, including the larger ones. The previous restriction to a sales area of a maximum of 800 square meters no longer applies. After a compulsory break for weeks, restaurants and hotels are allowed to reopen gradually in Bavaria: outdoor areas of restaurants on May 18th, indoor restaurants on May 25th, hotels on May 30th.

schools

The schools in Bavaria should gradually reopen for more and more years from next Monday - but only very slowly: Only after the Whitsun holidays in mid-June should face-to-face classes be offered again for all students and all age groups. The Bavarian cabinet decided on Tuesday in Munich.

On May 11th, it will continue with the classes who will graduate in the coming year, as well as with the fourth graders of the elementary schools. On May 18, the 1st grades are to follow, the 5th grades in the middle schools and the 5th and 6th grades in the secondary schools and grammar schools. All others will only come after the Whitsun vacation.

In future, pupils in Bavaria's schools will have to wear masks - not in class, but in the school yard, for example.

Daycare centers and kindergartens

Bavaria wants to bring half of all crèche and kindergarten children back to daycare centers by Pentecost. Starting next Monday, certain childcare facilities in Bavaria will be allowed to reopen, including forest kindergartens and day care facilities with up to five children.

Playgrounds, zoos, culture

After weeks of corona-related closures and closings, playgrounds in Bavaria may be released again from this Wednesday. From next Monday, zoos, botanical gardens, museums, libraries, galleries, exhibitions and memorials will follow. The Free State is thus implementing a federal-state agreement from last week.

Sports

After weeks of restrictions, certain sports will be allowed again in Bavaria from next Monday. These include tennis, athletics, golf and sailing.

How does it look elsewhere?

Other federal states also want to relax the corona regulations, some examples:

Baden-Württemberg's Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann has announced that sport will be relaxed, and "contactless outdoor sports" such as golf or tennis will be allowed again from next week. However, Kretschmann made it clear that he is against easing the ban on contact with citizens.

In Saxony-Anhalt, a new ordinance came into force on Monday night, with which the state is leading nationwide in easing the corona restrictions. Instead of being with one person away from their own household, the people there are now allowed to be together with five people. There, as in Thuringia and Rhineland-Palatinate, shops with a sales area larger than 800 square meters are allowed to open again this week.

Hessen is planning to open the schools further from May 18 in a restricted form, including. for the fourth grade, the lower secondary level and the introductory phase of the upper secondary level. The other primary school students are to follow from June 2nd. In North Rhine-Westphalia, all elementary school students should go to school again on a daily basis from May 11th. The Abitur exams are already running in Bremen, and the fourth graders have been back in schools since May 4th.

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has announced that it will open the restaurants again from May 9th, hotels and guesthouses will follow from May 18th, and tourists from other federal states will be allowed to enter again from May 25th.

It is to be expected that after the renewed talks between Chancellor Angela Merkel and the country leaders on Wednesday, May 6th, further easing will be announced. A regulation is also to be adopted for the approval of "ghost games" in the Bundesliga. (caf / dpa)
