In the fight against the spread of the novel corona virus in Germany, the federal government's crisis team decided on new protective measures on Friday evening. Large events are to be made dependent on comprehensive risk assessments. These should be based on the principles of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).

International travel fair canceled

(jr / dpa) Imminent major international events such as the International Tourism Exchange (ITB) planned for the coming week in Berlin should therefore be canceled, recommended the crisis team on Friday evening. The organizer had already decided to cancel shortly beforehand in coordination with the city's health senate.

The decisions of the crisis team also have an impact on travel. If, for example, suspected cases are found in long-distance and regional trains, railway companies must report this. The crisis team also announced increased border controls by the federal police.

Controls in travel and border traffic

The day before, travelers from certain crisis countries, including Italy, had already decided that so-called disembarkation cards had to be filled out at their destination. If necessary, the reconstruction of infection chains and the ordering of quarantine measures should be facilitated.

In the future, airlines will have to provide information on the health of passengers who come with aircraft from a total of five countries. In addition to arrivals from China, travelers from South Korea, Japan, Italy and Iran must now also report the health status of the passengers before entering the country. The same applies to shipping.

In addition, the federal police are instructed to strengthen their controls in the 30-kilometer area at the borders and also pay attention to suspected corona cases. Such identity checks in the border area are covered by the Federal Police Act.

Germany in crisis mode

The crisis team also decided to stock up on protective equipment such as breathing masks and special suits - not just for medical staff. Central procurement by the federal government is to be prepared for this.

The group of experts jointly set up by the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Health is now supposed to meet twice a week. The next meeting is scheduled for this Tuesday.
