Defender Timo Hübers from Hannover 96 has tested positive for the corona virus. The club assumes that he has not had any contact with teammates since he was infected.

(lv / dpa) - For the first time in German professional football, a player has tested positive for the corona virus. The second division club Hannover 96 announced on Wednesday that the 23-year-old defender Timo Hübers is in quarantine at home.

Entire squad is tested

The association assumes that Hübers got infected on Saturday evening at an event in Hildesheim. The time and place of his infection can be "pinpointed exactly". Since he has not had any contact with his teammates since then, it cannot be assumed that teammates have become infected with him. Nevertheless, "the entire professional squad as well as the coaching team and staff will be tested for the virus as a precaution," it said in a statement.

Hübers shows no symptoms

Timo Hübers has not shown any symptoms so far. When he found out beforehand that a person who had been with him at the event had tested positive, he reported directly to the doctor and temporarily went into quarantine at home.

Most recently, Hübers played for the relegated Bundesliga on Friday evening at the game in Nuremberg.
