Many people use Lent to stop unhealthy behaviors for a while. Right at the top is the desire to give up alcohol until Easter. The Federal Center for Health Education (BzgA) supports this with the campaign “Can you do without?”.

The campaign, which lasts from March 6th to April 19th (45 days), offers those willing to fast everything that will facilitate their alcohol-free everyday life and help them achieve their goal: for example, simple tips for self-motivation and healthy drinking alternatives for the fasting period. Particularly helpful: Concrete advice on how to master challenges in the form of celebrations or visits to restaurants.

45 days off

During the 45 days break from alcohol, personal alcohol consumption can be put to the test once:

  • Am i drinking too much?
  • How does alcohol affect me?
  • On what occasions do I drink?
  • Which alternative possibilities for relaxation or reward also work?

A weekly newsletter motivates the participants to stay on the ball and supports them with suggestions for an alcohol-free everyday life.

Positive effects of alcohol fasting

Positive effects of temporarily abstaining from alcohol include:

  • better sleep
  • less cravings
  • Weight loss
  • better skin
  • more balanced mood
  • lower blood pressure
  • regenerated liver

Ideally, the fasting period has a long-term effect on drinking behavior. In the future, you will no longer drink out of habit, but only if you really make a conscious decision.
