Returnees from foreign corona risk areas must be in quarantine for ten days from Sunday. Anyone who has been in a risk area for less than 24 hours is exempt from this obligation.

A corresponding model ordinance drawn up by the federal and state governments will come into force on November 8 in Baden-Württemberg, as the Ministry of Health announced on Friday. This shortens the quarantine time from 14 to 10 days, since corona symptoms appear no later than 10 days after infection.

However, returning travelers can no longer be exempted from the quarantine obligation with a negative test result. If you want to end self-isolation early, you can have a corona test done on the fifth day after your return at the earliest. If the result is negative, the quarantine obligation ends. However, in view of the overloaded laboratories, the result is often not likely to coincide until the end of the quarantine obligation.

Exceptional rules for commuters & Co.

But there are many exceptions: Cross-border commuters and cross-border commuters are still exempt from the quarantine obligation. Anyone who lives in the border region and enters Baden-Württemberg for less than 24 hours does not have to be in isolation.

This also applies to those who go from the southwest to a risk area in the border region for less than 24 hours. There is a new exception rule for travelers who stay in a risk area for a maximum of 72 hours, for example to visit close relatives or to undergo urgent medical treatment.

Certain groups such as doctors, judges, parliamentarians or law enforcement officers can still be exempted with a negative test upon entry. This also applies to travelers who have stayed in a risk area for up to five days "absolutely necessary and cannot be postponed, including for professional reasons. In compliance with additional regulations, seasonal workers are also exempt from the quarantine obligation, provided that they start their work in Baden-Württemberg for at least three weeks.
