So that more and more employees can gradually return to their jobs, the Federal Cabinet has adopted nationwide uniform and binding standards.

For the gradual return of more employees to work, nationwide uniform rules for protection against the new type of coronavirus should apply. The Federal Cabinet decided on additional binding standards, as Minister of Labor Hubertus Heil announced on Thursday in Berlin.

Distance or face mask

Specifically, among other things, it is fundamentally stipulated that a distance of at least 1.5 meters to other people must also be maintained at work - in buildings, outdoors and in vehicles. For this, barriers, markings or access regulations would have to be implemented.

Where this is not possible, partition walls can be installed as an alternative. If that is not feasible either, employers should provide nose and mouth covers for employees and also for customers and service providers.

Binding rules for little contact

Processes should be organized in such a way that employees have as little direct contact as possible with one another. This applies, for example, to breaks, shift changes or presence in the office. According to Minister of Labor Heil, anyone who has symptoms such as a slight fever should leave work or stay at home until the suspicion has been cleared up by a doctor.

The rules are binding, said Heil. The authorities would also randomly check compliance. It is assumed, however, that the companies will adhere to the guidelines. Employers and unions were on board during the deliberations on the new rules. It is not about burdening the economy with threats of administrative offenses. (caf / dpa)
