Men hide pain during sex

Whole guys don't whine. Apparently, this also applies to lovemaking. A not inconsiderable number of men regularly suffer from pain. Most of them don't talk about it - neither with their partner nor with a doctor. But that is a mistake.

The fact that pain spoils the most beautiful thing in the world is also perceived by doctors as a problem for women. In fact, pain during sex is much more common for them than for men: According to a recently published US survey, 30 percent of women suffer from it - but at least seven percent of men suffer from it. That is significantly more than in previous studies.

Treatable causes

After all, half of the women addressed the problem. Among the men, the rate of those affected who talked about it was significantly lower: two out of three hide their problem.

The doctor can often help - even men. It is crucial to first find out what is behind the pain when having sex. There are many causes: Often it is an induratio penis plastika, in which hardening occurs in the penis, which can cause pain and a curvature of the limb during erection. The problem can usually be resolved surgically.

Other causes are, for example, a narrowing of the foreskin or chronic inflammation of the prostate, infections, for example with herpes viruses, but also chronic pelvic pain, which can also be psychological. If the exact cause is known, it can be treated accordingly.

Talking helps

A conversation between the partners is also important. Because the fear of pain quickly spoils the desire for lovemaking. If the partner does not know the reasons for this, he feels rejected and the partnership is needlessly in crisis. In addition, fear can also cause the best piece to go on strike. Here, too, discussions can help prevent the problem from becoming an unnecessarily great burden on the relationship.

Painful Practices

In total, the US researchers asked around 1,738 men and women about pain during sexual intercourse. Seven percent of men and 30 percent of women said they were in pain when making love. However, these were mostly short-lived and easy to moderate. Pain during anal intercourse, which 30 percent of heterosexual couples also did, was far more common. 72 percent of women and 15 percent of men felt pain. In women in particular, these were even moderately to severely painful. (cf)
