The body mass index, or BMI for short, is a measure of the relationship between body weight and height. The value, also known as the body mass index, provides information on whether a person is underweight, normal weight, overweight or obese (obese).

The body mass index is calculated from the body weight (in kilograms) divided by the square of the body height (in meters). A BMI value between 18.5 and 25 kg / m² corresponds to normal weight. Values between 25 and 30 kg / m² are defined as overweight. From 30 kg / m² one speaks of obesity (adiposity).

Adults can easily determine their BMI with the BMI calculator. There are separate BMI tables for children.
