In Bavaria, the carnival holidays end on Monday. This increases the risk that vacationers could bring a coronavirus disease with them. Students should stay home with no symptoms even if they have been in a risk area, advises the state's health ministry.

(jr / dpa) The ministry especially urges tourists to be cautious in Italy. Holiday guests who have a reasonable suspicion of an infection after their vacation should contact their family doctor by phone, the ministry said on Saturday.

A well-founded suspicion exists in people who have symptoms such as shivering or fever, sore throat, cough or a general feeling of illness and who have previously been in a risk area. "Anyone who has had personal contact with someone with coronavirus in Italy should contact their health department immediately," says Health Minister Melanie Huml (CSU).

School-free for those returning from school

Students who have been in one of the designated risk areas in the past two weeks should stay at home on Monday, the first day of school, if possible, even without symptoms. The school should then be informed about it, said the Ministry of Education. "In this case, the non-participation in the class is considered excused," it said. In Italy, Lombardy is considered a risk area, while outside of Europe there are certain regions in China, South Korea and Iran.

Do not go into practice unsolicited

The Bavarian Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians emphasized once again that patients suspected of having a coronavirus infection should not go to a doctor's practice or hospital emergency room without registering by telephone. "Because there is a risk of spreading the virus on the way there or in the practice itself." It is correct to call the medical on-call service on 116 117. "There you will receive medically sound, specific recommendations for action."

Most Sars-CoV-2 infected people only have mild cold symptoms, but about 15 out of 100 infected people get seriously ill, according to the Robert Koch Institute. You have difficulty breathing or have symptoms of pneumonia. According to previous figures, depending on the region, up to two percent of those infected died.
