The number of confirmed infections with the new coronavirus has risen significantly nationwide in a short time. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), 117 coronavirus infections were detected in Germany by Sunday morning - 51 more than by Saturday morning. More and more people also have to go into isolation.

In North Rhine-Westphalia alone there are now 66 cases according to the current RKI list, 19 in Bavaria and 15 in Baden-Württemberg. The actual number of infected people is likely to be higher because some evidence is still pending.

With confirmed infections in three men, the corona virus has now also reached Frankfurt am Main. There are new suspected cases in Lower Saxony - domestic quarantine was ordered in 15 cases. Those affected had contact with a 68-year-old who had taken a bus trip to South Tyrol with his wife.

On Saturday, individual infections were also reported from Cologne, Bonn, Duisburg, Mönchengladbach, the Aachen area and Lüdenscheid in the Sauerland.

In the north, after the pediatrician at the Hamburg University Hospital Eppendorf (UKE), another case in Hamburg and one in Lübeck had been reported since Saturday.

In the particularly affected NRW district of Heinsberg, the domestic quarantine ended for two thirds of the isolated 1000 residents. Around 300 carnivalists who attended a February 15 meeting in Gangelt and their families had been called to take the precautionary measure. The remaining third have to be patient until the end of the week.

In Baden-Württemberg, at the end of the carnival holidays, children, teachers and many officials, including police officers, should initially stay at home as a precaution if they have returned from an area at risk for the novel corona virus in the past few days. This applies regardless of the symptoms of the disease.

"Up until a few weeks ago we only had a few individual cases that could be contained relatively quickly," said Marylyn Addo, head of the Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine Section at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, to the German Press Agency.

There are now many infected people from whom you do not know where they were infected. "In this respect, it is a more dynamic event that goes beyond individual cases," said Addo. Overall, the situation is currently still well under control. Most chains of infection can be traced. However, Addo added: "We don't know where we will be in two months." (Cf / dpa)
