In the next few days, the federal states want to lift their general quarantine rules for travelers from neighboring countries that were introduced due to the corona pandemic.

The Federal Ministry of the Interior is currently working on a new model ordinance for the federal states, the ministry said on Friday. The federal states agreed on Thursday after consultation with the Federal Chancellery.

For travelers from neighboring countries: No quarantine

Currently, in many federal states, everyone who enters Germany from a neighboring European country has to go into quarantine for 14 days. Federal Minister of the Interior Horst Seehofer (CSU) had recommended that the federal states relax the quarantine rules that have previously been in force and only apply them to people who have previously been in third countries. For example, no longer for Germans arriving from France or from the Netherlands.

The decision on the quarantine rules lies solely with the countries.

Court overturned quarantine duty

On Tuesday, the Lower Saxony Higher Administrative Court overturned the basic quarantine obligation after an urgent application by a holiday home owner and thus fueled the discussion. In North Rhine-Westphalia, the quarantine obligation was lifted on Friday. (lv / dpa)
