So that the Corona warning app can reliably record, compare and warn encounters, it must be allowed to be constantly active in the background. But she does not have this right on every device.

No apps active in the background

That the smartphone battery lasts longer is a noble goal. But some manufacturers overshoot the mark: They prohibit many apps from being active in the background. This means, for example, that you will not receive any notifications about new messages from Messenger. Or it prevents the corona warning app from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) warning of risk encounters in good time or at all if you do not start the application yourself.

Due to the reports of problems with the Corona warning app, many people are now likely to wonder whether they should do something.

The warning app can check

The following applies to all apps: In the vast majority of cases, such problems can be solved in the smartphone settings. So that users do not have to search for a long time - and to be able to quickly determine whether they are affected or not - there is a link in the device settings in the current version of the Corona Warning app (version 1.1.1 from July 20) to find inside including exam.

This test can be achieved by tapping on the three vertically arranged points in the top right of the app and selecting "Settings". At the bottom under "Prioritized background activity" you can see immediately whether the function is "On" or "Off". If it is activated, you don't have to do anything else.

Hit the slider

However, if it is not activated, you tap on "Prioritized background activity". A new window now opens in which you drag the slider to the "On" position. Shortly afterwards, Android asks in a small pop-up window: "Should the app always run in the background?" Users then have to confirm this by tapping "Allow".

By the way, the developers give an important note on the official website: "The mobile data that is transferred when using the Corona warning app does not cost you a cent and is not deducted from your contractual data volume or the like."

Then just an update

You can tell which version is installed by the version number in the application itself - in the menu at the bottom when you tap on "App information". In the event that an outdated version of the app is installed that does not offer the setting help, open the app store and look for the programs currently installed on the smartphone.

In the Google Play Store, for example, you tap on the symbol with the three horizontally arranged lines in the upper left corner of the search input field. Then select "My Apps and Games / Installed" and tap on the "Update" box in the list behind the entry for the Corona warning app.
