The pleasure drop is a clear, tough secretion that emerges from the penis when the man is sexually aroused. This pre-ejaculate is used to prepare the urethra for ejaculation (ejaculation) by creating a sperm-friendly environment. In addition, the pleasure drops act like a natural lubricant. Read everything you need to know about pleasure drops and their function, as well as the possible connection between pleasure drops and pregnancy!

What is the drop of pleasure?

The drop of pleasure (man) is also called pre-ejaculate. It is a secretion from the Bulbourethral glands (Cowper's glands). These are small (about the size of a pea) mucous glands that lie under the prostate on both sides of the urethra, embedded in the transverse perineal muscle (transversus perinei profundus). In the pelvic area, the glands open into the urethra.

The drop of pleasure is released from the urinary spermatic tube in the event of sexual arousal before ejaculation. Its amount is small: sometimes there are only a few drops, but in some men the pre-ejaculate amounts to up to five milliliters.

Can you get pregnant from pleasure drops?

The drop of pleasure does not come out of the testicle and therefore cannot actually contain any sperm. But it is still possible to get pregnant through it. If, for example, sperm are still in the urinary tube from a previous ejaculation, these can be "flushed out" together with the pleasure drop. In addition, sperm can enter the urinary tube from the epididymis and spermatic ducts even during sexual arousal.

Can the pleasure drop transmit HIV?

An infection with the HI virus is hardly possible during oral sex through the pre-ejaculate, as long as ejaculate does not get into the mouth. This is due to the fact that the mucous membrane in the mouth is quite “robust” and viruses can hardly penetrate here. In addition, the saliva thins the pre-ejaculate.

It looks different with vaginal or anal intercourse. The drops of pleasure can certainly transmit HIV. Although the amount of HI viruses in the pre-ejaculate is less than that in the ejaculate, there is no reliable information on this. Even coitus interruptus cannot help here, because the mucous membrane of the cervix or intestine is much more susceptible to the HIV-containing secretion than the mouth.

What is the function of the pleasure drop?

Due to evolution, the sexual arousal of men has the goal of bringing the male semen into the woman's uterus. When the excitation is sufficient to stiffen the penis, the drops of pleasure are secreted by the bulbourethral glands mentioned above. This secretion cleanses the urinary tube and transforms its acidic environment (through the urine) into an alkaline one. The sperm feel “more comfortable” in one of these; they need it to become active. In addition, the pleasure drops serve as a natural lubricant.

Where is the drop of pleasure located?

The pre-ejaculate is found at the tip of the glans penis. It can emerge from the tip of the penis as a small, viscous, slimy drop. Sometimes, however, a large amount of secretion also flows out.

What problems can the pleasure drop cause?

Prejaculate during vaginal or anal intercourse can lead to an HIV infection if the virus has spread through the urethra to the bulbourethral glands.

Other sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea, chlamydia and fungal infections or mycoplasma can also be transmitted via the pleasure drops.
