Medication before the operation

Some medications that a patient takes regularly must be stopped before a planned operation and, if necessary, replaced with other medications. Some can be taken until shortly before the operation, others have to be discontinued weeks beforehand. These include anti-coagulants and certain medications for diabetics.

If you take medication regularly, speak to your doctor and surgeon about this. Never stop taking your medication on your own!
