The potency drug Cialis from the manufacturer Lilly Pharma is used worldwide in the treatment of erectile dysfunction and benign prostate syndrome. The drug is characterized by its long duration of action compared to other potency-increasing drugs and thus also allows spontaneous sexuality. Here you will find all the important information about Cialis.

This active ingredient is in Cialis

What is Cialis Cialis is a potency enhancing drug used to treat erectile dysfunction in men. The active ingredient in Cialis is tadalafil, which belongs to the group of phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors (PDE-5 inhibitors). It acts directly on the blood supply to the penis: When sexual stimulation occurs, nitric oxide (NO) is released. NO then stimulates an enzyme that leads to increased production of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). The task of the cGMP is to relax the smooth muscles and allow an increased blood flow into the penis (erection). The enzyme phosphodiesterase then breaks down the cGMP and consequently relaxes the penis. The Cialis effect is to stop this breakdown and thus to ensure a stronger blood flow to the erectile tissue and a stronger erection. However, sexual stimulation is a prerequisite - without this the drug will not work. Cialis is a very reliable sexual enhancer and is characterized by its long duration of action.

Compared to other active ingredients in this group, the Cialis active ingredient has a significantly longer half-life. The effects can last up to 36 hours. The Cialis duration of action allows spontaneous sexuality.

When is Cialis used?

The sexual enhancer Cialis is mainly used in men with a doctor diagnosed erectile dysfunction. This occurs when the erection is not sufficient for satisfactory sexual intercourse. The drug requires a prescription and is only available in the pharmacy with a prescription.

The Cialis effect is also used to treat benign prostate syndrome. Furthermore, the active ingredient ensures better blood flow to the lungs and could thus lead to improved performance during physical activity.

What are the side effects of Cialis?

Like any drug, Cialis can cause side effects. Often it can lead to muscle and body aches, headaches, facial flushing or indigestion. Occasionally, dizziness and abdominal pain, penile bleeding, palpitations, rapid heartbeat, high and low blood pressure and ringing in the ears occur. Fainting, seizures, temporary memory loss, swelling of the eyelids, hives, sudden hearing loss or deafness are very rare.

If side effects occur suddenly, a doctor should be consulted immediately, who will decide on an individual basis whether the drug should be discontinued or the dosage should be regulated.

The active ingredient in Cialis is very selective compared to other PDE-5 inhibitors, which means that it acts almost exclusively on the enzyme PDE-5. The active ingredient has practically no effect on related enzymes such as PDE-6 (regulates processes on the retina of the eye). Less selective PDE-5 inhibitors can cause color vision disorders; this is not the case when using Cialis.

Overdose

If the dose of the drug is higher than the recommended dose, Cialis side effects may increase. If necessary, a doctor should be consulted in this case in order to decide on further steps. The drug can be discontinued at any time, but this also wears off the actually desired effect.

You should keep this in mind when using Cialis

As with all drugs, there are restrictions on use and so-called contraindications, that is, situations or clinical pictures in which Cialis should not be taken. There are also frequent interactions with other drugs.

Cialis should not be used if:

  • simultaneous treatment with organic nitrates or nitrogen oxide donors (e.g. amyl nitrite) for the treatment of high blood pressure or angina pectoris
  • Heart disease or after a recent heart attack
  • and after a stroke
  • low or uncontrolled high blood pressure (e.g. treated with alpha blockers)
  • Allergy to tadalafil or auxiliary substances (e.g. lactose)

As a general rule, it should be noted that intense sexual activity can pose a potential risk to patients suffering from heart disease.

For the risk groups listed below, taking Cialis is only recommended after consultation with the attending physician:

  • with sickle cell anemia
  • in multiple myeloma (bone marrow cancer)
  • for leukemia (blood cancer)
  • with pathological deformation of the penis

The simultaneous use of CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g. certain drugs against fungal diseases or antibiotics) or the consumption of grapefruit juice can increase the occurrence of side effects.

Caution should be exercised when using Cialis with alcohol. Alcohol can have a sexually stimulating effect in small amounts, but in larger amounts alcohol consumption affects the ability to get an erection and the drug may not work adequately. Alcohol can also lower blood pressure and you may feel dizzy if you take the drug at the same time.

Cialis can be taken daily or as needed. The 5 mg film-coated tablet is suitable for daily use. This type of therapy is recommended for patients who want to be sexually active at least twice a week and for patients who are being treated for benign prostate syndrome. In patients with renal or hepatic insufficiency, the daily dose of Cialis can be reduced to 2.5 mg.

Cialis is a prescription drug and is available in all pharmacies. There are Cialis tablets with the active ingredient quantity of 5 mg (milligrams), 10 mg or 20 mg.

The 10 mg and 20 mg Cialis tablets are used for planned sexuality. As a starting dose, 10 mg should be taken at least 30 minutes before the planned sexual intercourse. If necessary, the doctor may increase the dose to 20 mg daily. This Cialis dosage is not suitable for daily use because of the increased side effects.

As a general rule, the drug should be taken with 250 milliliters of water (a standard glass of water) to ensure that the tablet dissolves in the gastrointestinal tract. Simultaneous consumption of food does not have a positive or negative effect on the effect of the drug.

Things worth knowing about Cialis

There are many generic Cialis on the international market. These are copycat products of the original with the same active ingredient. Cialis generic drugs can be found on the Internet, however, which are available without a prescription and at significantly lower prices. These preparations should always be consumed with caution. A prior consultation with the doctor is strongly recommended, as it can lead to serious side effects and even death if not taken properly.
