With the relaxation of the Corona restrictions, mountain tours will also be possible again. The German Alpine Association no longer advises against hiking - but warns of some rules of conduct.

No kiss on the summit and in your backpack, mouth mask and disinfectant: The German Alpine Association (DAV) now sees hiking in the mountains as justifiable again - however, mountain hikers should observe a few rules:

keep distance

After a successful ascent, do without the usual rituals such as shaking hands or hugs at the summit. It is also advisable to take a face mask and disinfectant with you.

Reluctance to plan tours

Mountain hikers are best not to undertake tours that are too long or difficult, on which they could run into problems or in need. In this way, accidents in the mountains can be avoided. The DAV also recommends avoiding heavily frequented areas and tours. In addition, the national borders should not be crossed.

No risk on arrival

The DAV especially appeals to car pools and group sizes to comply with the rules of the authorities. And if you and your fellow hikers cannot keep a distance of two meters during activities, the same applies as in the supermarket or bus and tram: put on your mask.

Take into account more food

You have to bring your own snack with you for the time being. Most of the huts are closed. Only occasionally there is something to eat and drink to take away from the mountain pastures and huts. It is still unclear whether and when the hut season can really start.

Hotels and thus other overnight stays in the Free State - in accordance with the far-reaching relaxation decided by the Bavarian cabinet - are allowed to reopen from May 30th. How this can be implemented for mountain huts remains to be seen for the time being. The narrowness of mattress bases, for example, makes it difficult to comply with the specified distance rules.

Avoid danger areas

As every year, the DAV reminds hikers not to underestimate the danger of old snow at higher altitudes. Accidents happen again and again in spring because hikers slip. Old snow fields are often frozen and slippery. The corona pandemic does not change that. (approx / dpa)
