There is indeed walking, cycling and jogging - but most of the time people are on their own, as a couple or with their families. And you keep your distance. Masks are also increasingly being worn in public. It remains to be seen whether the discipline will continue over the Easter days. The weather report promises nationwide bright sunshine and temperatures above 24 degrees.
Violations also occur
Even if most of them adhere to the rules, violations are found again and again: people are in small groups in green spaces, children play in playgrounds despite the prohibition, excursionists take occasional jaunts. The police can then issue expulsion orders and residence bans and impose fines. Unrepentant objectors can be taken into custody to avert danger.
In the event of gross violations, fines of between 150 and 5000 euros are due. The new catalog of fines, which has been in force since Friday, provides for penalties for violations. Repeat cases can even be punished with up to 25,000 euros.
In her new podcast, Chancellor Merkel urged all citizens to adhere to the contact restrictions also at Easter and during the holidays. "We will all experience a very different Easter season than ever before." In Germany, there are currently extensive contact blocks for citizens, and restaurants, theaters, cinemas, playgrounds and many shops are also closed. (cf / dpa)
