Vaccinated persons should no longer need corona tests in the future and should be able to travel more easily. In addition, vaccination prioritization is to be lifted from June. This was announced by Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday evening (CDU) after a vaccination summit with the state prime ministers.

Formal resolutions have not yet been passed, but the government intends to quickly submit a corresponding draft ordinance. Corresponding resolutions could then come into force at the end of May.

Vaccinated and convalescents are exempted from the obligation to test

Specifically, this could mean: Two weeks after the second dose, vaccinated people would no longer have to show a negative corona test result when shopping or visiting the hairdresser. The vaccination certificate would then have the same function. Similar rules should also apply to those who have recovered who can prove that a negative PCR test was at least 28 days ago after their illness.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, at this point in time it is very unlikely that those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered from Covid-19 will become ill or infect other people.

Quarantine requirements will be relaxed

The currently applicable quarantine obligation after re-entry from abroad is to be largely eliminated for those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered. Exceptions should apply to entries from countries in which risk mutations are rampant, such as India.

In addition, vaccinated people could again enjoy more freedom with regard to contact restrictions. In a key issues paper in preparation for the meeting, which was available to several media, special exceptions for old people's and care facilities were named. It therefore seems questionable that a barbecue evening in a larger group of vaccinated people will be possible.

Even for vaccinated people there is no normality in sight

However, there is no talk of a complete return to normal in this country for the time being, even after the vaccination. Restaurants, cinemas, theaters, hotels or swimming pools and fitness studios will continue to be closed to them. Masks must continue to be worn and distance rules must be observed. This is also against the background that appropriate controls are otherwise difficult.

This is handled differently in other countries, for example in Switzerland and Great Britain. No information was given when such steps could also be taken in Germany.

Prioritization falls in June

After all, people without prioritization could soon hope for a vaccination. This should fall in June at the latest. By then, the vast majority of those who want to be vaccinated from the first three priority groups will have been vaccinated, according to the current calculation.

It is an illusion that the entire population can be vaccinated in June. The vaccine capacities and vaccination options are still insufficient for this. However, everyone should be able to arrange a vaccination appointment or receive any leftover vaccination doses in the evening.

Question marks from mutants and delayed vaccine deliveries

In addition, there are still uncertainties. Further delays in the delivery of vaccines can delay vaccination progress again. New mutants could also reduce the effectiveness of the vaccinations and thus mean renewed restrictions for those who have been vaccinated.
