Free mobile app: What to do in the event of poisoning?

MunichChildren are curious. You explore the world with all your senses - including your mouth. Sometimes poisonous or caustic things end up in the small bellies. The free mobile app "Poisoning Accidents in Children" from the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) can help in such emergencies.

Among other things, it gives detailed information on toxic ingredients, the poisoning picture and first aid measures. In addition, it connects directly to the responsible poison information center via the emergency call function.

Make the right decision in emergency situations

"The app helps to make the right decision in emergency situations and should be installed on the smartphone of all parents and carers of small children," says BfR President Prof. Andreas Hensel.

Once installed on the mobile phone, the app can also be used without internet access. It is available for download free of charge for the Android and iOS operating systems.

The mobile service "Poisoning Accidents in Children" was published in August 2013 and has already been installed around 100,000 times within five months. It has since received the German Prize for Online Communication 2014 in the "Mobile and Apps" category. (cf)
