The Frankfurt Book Fair is to take place this autumn despite the corona pandemic. The book fair's supervisory board decided on Wednesday. But it will look different than before. The people in charge in Frankfurt announced that the book show would be held from October 14 to 18, 2020 on the exhibition grounds, decentralized in the city and at the same time virtually. "This year it is more important than ever to hold the Frankfurt Book Fair," said Book Fair Director Juergen Boos.

The hygiene concept should ensure safety

In the past few years, more than 300,000 visitors flocked to Frankfurt and nearly 7,500 exhibitors from over 100 countries. Normally there is a dense crowd in the exhibition halls during the book fair. The list of events was as thick as a book. That will probably not happen this year. A detailed health and hygiene concept ensures the safety of visitors, exhibitors and employees, emphasized those responsible on Wednesday.

A lot can happen until autumn. The "current planning stand" at the end of May looks like this: The stands are larger and the aisles wider. There are no large stages, such offers are held on the Internet or in other places. The number of visitors is limited, how much depends on the total area occupied. As of now, even the reading public is welcome at the weekend. Admission should be contactless "after pre-registration and self-assessment of the state of health".

Appearance by Guest of Honor Canada is still unclear

In addition, there are likely to be fewer international guests: whoever is allowed to come is also dependent on the travel restrictions that apply at the time. It has not yet been decided what the appearance of the Guest of Honor Canada will look like. Under the motto "Singular Plurality", the country wants to emphasize above all the multilingualism of its literature.
