An accident or emergency is always an exceptional situation. Having the right emergency number at hand can save lives.

The following applies in every emergency situation:

  • keep Calm
  • to secure the scene of an accident
  • pay attention to your own safety

When making an emergency call, it is important to note the five "W" s:

  • Where did something happen?
  • What happened?
  • How many injured are there?
  • Who reports the emergency?
  • Wait for any questions you may have.

Emergency call

112 is the nationwide standardized emergency number for all emergency situations. The emergency call is automatically sent to the locally responsible rescue control center under this number.

110 is the nearest police station that forwards the emergency call to the ambulance service.

Medical on-call service

In urgent but not life-threatening cases, the medical on-call service can help on 116117.

Poison Information Centers

The nine poison control centers are responsible for all cases of poisoning. They have an informative and advisory role. The service is designed for laypeople, patients, doctors and medical support staff alike. You will receive the following information there around the clock:

  • Whether certain substances are toxic or not.
  • Whether the berries your child ate while playing are poisonous in this amount.
  • Whether the grandfather's health, who took the entire daily dose of his medication at once, is threatened and whether he needs medical treatment.
  • What action you need to take next: Call an emergency doctor, call the ambulance, see your family doctor the next day, have water to dilute the poisonous substance, maybe you don't need to do anything.
