Voltaren Dolo contains the active ingredient diclofenac. It is a substance from the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The drug inhibits the action of special tissue hormones (so-called prostaglandins). These play a major role in the development of inflammatory processes, fever and the transmission of pain. Voltaren Dolo supports the healing process in the case of inflammation and relieves pain.

When is Voltaren Dolo used?

The drug is used to treat mild to moderate pain in the musculoskeletal system. However, it can also be used for degenerative joint and spinal diseases (osteoarthritis and spondylarthrosis) and due to its anti-inflammatory effect, Voltaren Dolo also helps with fever.

What are the side effects of Voltaren Dolo?

The side effects of Voltaren Dolo are highly dependent on the dosage and duration of use of the drug, as well as the physical condition of the patient. Symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, and gastrointestinal bleeding are very common.

In addition, side effects such as headache, agitation, tiredness, dizziness, irritability, insomnia, abdominal pain, flatulence, discomfort in the upper abdomen, loss of appetite, gastrointestinal ulcer, increased enzyme levels, skin rash and itching are possible.

Edema (swelling caused by fluid retention) is also occasionally seen, especially in patients with high blood pressure or impaired kidney function. For further side effects, please refer to the package insert.

You should bear this in mind when using Voltaren Dolo

Voltaren-Dolo film-coated tablets as a dosage form must not be used:

  • for unexplained blood clotting and blood formation disorders
  • in the case of known allergies to the active ingredient contained and other components of the drug
  • if you have or have ever had gastric / duodenal ulcers
  • if blood has been noticed in the stool
  • in severe kidney and liver diseases
  • if you have known severe heart failure (heart failure)
  • in the last three months of pregnancy

Particular caution applies to:

  • Digoxin (a heart tonic drug)
  • Lithium and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (antidepressants)
  • simultaneous use of glucocorticoids and drugs from the group of NSAIDs
  • simultaneous use of platelet aggregation inhibitors (e.g. ASA)
  • Reduced effect of antihypertensive and urine inhibiting drugs

The dose of Voltaren Dolo film-coated tablets is one (25 mg) film-coated tablet one to three times a day as required. The maximum daily dose of 75 mg must not be exceeded. There should be four to six hours between the individual doses.

The use of Voltaren Dolo should not last longer than four days. In the event of prolonged or persistent pain, the causes should be clarified with a doctor.

Overdose

The symptoms of an overdose include disorders of the central nervous system (headache, dizziness, hyperventilation, impaired consciousness) as well as impairment of the gastrointestinal tract (nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, bleeding) or functional disorders of the liver and kidneys.

pregnancy and breast feeding period

Voltaren Dolo should also be used with particular caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding. In the first six months, the preparation should only be taken in exceptional cases, as the active ingredient can negatively affect the development of the embryo. In the last trimester of pregnancy, the drug should be discontinued as it can lead to complications during childbirth.

Small amounts of the drug can get into breast milk. However, there are no known negative effects on the infant with short-term use. Nevertheless, you should consult your doctor if you take long-term or high-dose use.

How to get Voltaren Dolo

Voltaren Dolo can be obtained in all pharmacies without a prescription by adults and adolescents from 14 years of age.
