Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has asked citizens to understand the restrictions in daily life in order to stop the further spread of the corona virus.

In order to save as many lives as possible, "drastic and immediate cuts in our daily life, our everyday work" are necessary. "We have to do without old habits such as hugs, kissing greetings and shaking hands for a while," said Steinmeier.

The head of state emphasized that federal and state governments would act decisively and purposefully to slow down the spread and advance preparations.
